Judi's strong passion for art led her to receive her BFA in Textile Design from Syracuse University. Upon graduation, Judi designed textiles for well-renowned home furnishing companies in New York City for nearly twenty years. Her designs were showcased and sold in high-end department stores and interior design studios across the country.
While raising her children, Judi decided to become a high school art teacher so that she could inspire students to develop their artistic talents. She received her Masters degree and was hired by a wonderful school district to teach painting, drawing, ceramics and silk painting. Judi recently retired from teaching after 24 years.
Judi's textile design background has influenced her artwork in numerous ways that include intricate florals and geometric motifs and cultural expressions. All of her work is original, drawn in detail with a resist (called gutta), then meticulously painted on silk utilizing many layers of dyes. Judi's ideas are inspired by the beauty of nature and diverse cultures from around the world. Working in an almost meditative state, Judi concentrates deeply on the lines, composition, texture and colors when she is painting. She considers herself very fortunate to have this deep passion for her work that enables her to take an idea and develop it into a beautiful work of art.
Having recently completed a large series of custom silk paintings, Judi continues to accept commissioned work. Judi has shown her work at the juried Armonk Outdoor Art Show (Rated #2 in the country!) for the past nine years as well as area galleries.
